8. Other harm
The chapters from the viewpoint of the antagonist include the torture and execution of a mother and son convicted of treason.
There are abstract references throughout the story to various atrocities typical of dictatorial regimes.
A heated argument at the end between the narrator and antagonist makes references to such upsetting topics, including genocide.
This confrontation also involves the narrator being restrained and threatened with violence and/or death, although she safely escapes afterwards.
All the protagonists survive at the end except one.
One main antagonist is cryogenically frozen at the end, another is in hiding.
